How to Install a Car Seat CorrectlyHow to Install a Car Seat Correctly

Lakeview Child Center Car seats are designed to protect children in the event of an accident. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report kids buckled into carseats are 71% to 82% less likely to get injured. That’s why it’s so important that you read the instructions that come with your seat, and follow them to the letter. It’s also a legal requirement that you do so.

Does car seat go behind driver or passenger?

The first step is to install your seat base in the back seat of your vehicle. Make sure the seat is in the rear-center position, which is considered safer for babies because of how their head, neck and spine are protected in a crash. Then, route the lower anchor strap through the belt path for the direction your seat faces (it should have arrows on it). Make sure there are no twists, and then buckle it. You should not be able to move the seat at the belt path more than an inch side-to-side or front-to-back. You can also lock the seat belt, which is done by pulling it all the way out and feeding it back in to a locking clip on your seat (see your manual for more info).

Now put your infant carrier on top of the base. It should click into place, and many have a level indicator that lets you know it’s at the right angle for your baby’s weight/height/age. If it isn’t, check the base angle, and adjust as needed.
